Research is clear that becoming a skilled, confident reader during the first few years at school has a direct impact on a child’s well-being and school outcomes. To ensure that these early skills are mastered by the end of Grade 3, The Learning Bar has developed Confident Learners.
Confident Learners provides an explicit and structured approach to systematic reading instruction. To support schools and districts in their unique needs we provide three different models of the literacy program:
- Confident Learners – Foundations
Confident Learners - Foundations is a K–4 literacy screener designed to help educators quickly identify students’ foundational reading needs and take immediate instructional action. This brief online assessment, Phonics Advantage Reading Assessment (PARA), consists of 15 items. It evaluates key early literacy skills, including pre-reading, phonics, decoding, fluency, and comprehension. The assessment provides a clear snapshot of each student's reading development.
Power Lessons are a unique feature of all Confident Learners programs.
- Confident Learners – Accelerate
Confident Learners - Accelerate is a streamlined literacy improvement program for Grades K–4 that combines assessment and instruction to support foundational reading development.
The program includes the Phonics Advantage Reading Assessment (PARA), a full suite of Power Lessons, and access to 12 High Yield Teaching micro-courses. PARA enables educators to monitor student progress continuously and deliver targeted instruction.

- Confident Learners – Transform
Confident Learners –Transform includes everything offered with Confident Learners - Accelerate, with the addition of a leadership development program and Literacy Coach support.
- Leadership Support - Prioritizes student learning, capacity building of school staff and continuous school improvement.
- Literacy Coaching - Live literacy coaching for teachers and school teams is also an integral part in which literacy coaches support the analysis of data and guidance on targeted instruction based on results.
